The internationally renowned Portuguese porcelain company Vista Alegre which started in 1824 is celebrating its 200th year with an exhibition at the Palácio Nacional de Ajuda. The company produces fine porcelain, crystal, and many decorative items. Designers of some items include Christian Lacroix and Alvaro Siza Vieira. You can visit the Palacio Nacional de Ajuda which has a treasure of furniture, tapestries, paintings and portraits and end your tour in the room dedicated to the Vista Alegre exhibition which also has an area selling their 200th anniversary items. The World Press Photo exhibition (WPP) 2024 will be held in Oeiras, at the Parque dos Poetas from 29th November to 29th December 2024. This 67th edition will exhibit the works of 31 photographers from 24 countries. Entrance is at the Templo da Poesia, Rua José de Azambuja Proença, Oeiras. Open from 10am to 8pm – entrance is free.
The Casino Estoril is holding its 38th Autumn Exhibition of paintings and sculpture at its Art Gallery in Estoril. There are 24 well-known artists participating including painters Diogo Navarro, Gustavo Fernandes, Nadir Afonso, Maramgoni, Paulo Ossião and sculptures by Carlos Ramos, Rogerio Timoteo and Thierry Ferreira amongst others. A new exhibition of Paula Rego’s paintings entitled The CHPR Collection in Dialogue has opened at the Paula Rego Casa das Historias in Cascais from 31st October 2024 and will end on 26th October 2025.

Jonathan Dassin sings the songs of his father Joe Dassin (1938-1980), at the Casino Estoril Salão Preta e Prata on 6th November 2024 at 9.30pm. Joe Dassin was a popular 1970s American French singer songwriter. Joe Dassin’s music was played a lot on local radios here. Some of you may remember his hits such as ‘A Toi’, ‘Salut’, ‘Et Si Tu N’existe Pas’, and ‘Les Champs-Élysées’. Jonathan Dassin will be featuring these songs in the concert.
For all those rockers out there the Danish rock band D-A-D from the late 1980s will be giving a concert on 28th September 2024 at the Estoril Casino. This will be at the Casino’s Salão Preta e Prata room starting at 9pm. The band’s hits include ‘Sleeping My Day Away’, ‘Point of View’ and ‘Laugh N’.

The Somersby OutJazz Oeiras 2024 in September will take place on 15th, 22nd and 29th. It is an outdoor event with concerts on Sundays and this is held from May to September. It starts at 5pm with live music followed by DJs, to sunset. This is the 18th Edition. The venue is in the Gardens of the Palacio Marquês de Pombal in Oeiras. Entrance is Free. There will be a tribute to popular singer Diana Krall at the Estoril Casino’s Lounge D this Friday, 13th September 2024 beginning at 10pm. The musical director is Mário Rui Teixeira and songs will include Diana Krall’s version of ‘Cry Me a River’ and ‘The Look of Love’.
