The Paula Rego Casa das Historias opened in 2009. This art gallery is dedicated to the work of world famous Portuguese artist Paula Rego. Admirers of Rego’s work can view her paintings, engravings and art on textile in this large area. Each of her paintings tells a story.
Paula Rego studied at the Slade School of Art in London from 1952 to 1956. She moved from Portugal to the UK permanently in 1976.

Paula Rego died on 8th June 2022 in London at the age of 87.
Eduardo Souto de Moura designed the building. A shop next to the gallery sells Rego’s books and other gift items. A cafe overlooks the gardens.

Many paintings and drawings of the extraordinary artist Paula Rego form part of this exhibition which can be viewed until 31st March 2024 in Cascais.
‘The stories change and so do the styles’ is the name of this exhibition. Through a series of her art we see Paula Rego’s unique creative process. It takes us from the beginning of her artistic career, from her studies at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. The decades – the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, took into account the various social and political atmosphere and influenced her work. Curator: Catarina Alfaro.
