One of the beautiful monuments in the Cascais borough is the Casa de Santa Maria, the house opposite the Marina and next to the Santa Marta lighthouse. The Cascais Council acquired it from the Espirito Santo family in 2004 and it is open to the public.
The house which was constructed by Jorge O’Neill, was designed by well-known local architect Raul Lino who also designed the Casa Verdades de Faria (Museum of Portuguese Music) in Monte Estoril.
It was built in three stages the last and final stage being in 1918. Overlooking the sea one of the main attractions is the 17th century tile panels which came from the Quinta da Ramada in Frielas. The wooden ceiling in the dining room is adorned with beautiful oil painting panels.
Open: Tuesday – Sunday 10am-6pm. Closed Monday.
